When the girl describes everything as perfect and clean and crisp, then disseminates into saying how she wore thick bifocals, and was nothing like the "perfect people" she was previously describing, it shows a huge contrast. It shows how she is very different than everyone and the tone shifted a lot when she said this. This relates to the aspect of people fitting in, in everyday life today. Everything may seem fine and people are very good at hiding how they really feel, but deep down inside he or she could be very messed up. You should never judge a book by its cover. In other words, you don’t know how people handle their own problems and you should not assume everyone’s situation.
